Frederick Wiseman's Model on March 17 with Shawn Glinis of Wiseman Podcast
Join us at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema for Frederick Wiseman's fascinating exploration of the fashion industry!
On March 17, Bleeding Edge is proud to present a special screening of Frederick Wiseman’s Model, an exposé on the industry that surrounds society’s most beautiful people. On hand will be Shawn Glinis, co-host of Wiseman Podcast and expert on the career of the revered and prolific documentarian.
In this 1980 film, Wiseman turns his lens toward the lives of professional models, individuals who are paradoxically treasured by a status-obsessed, capitalist society while also serving as scapegoats for criticism of shallow consumerism. In Model, Wiseman captures the often day-to-day lives of models in New York City, showing their portfolios to unimpressed agency representatives, holding awkward positions as photographers snap photos of them, and trying to appease perfectionist commercial directors. While Wiseman sometimes points his camera away from the inner workings of the advertising industry to the more quotidian realities of life in New York, he also shines a light the hard work and not-so-glamorous realities of life as a professional embodiment of physical perfection.
We’re excited to present this film with Hot Docs on Sunday, March 17 at 6:45PM. using the promo code Bleeding25 for a discount! Get tickets now!
